Avalon House is one of the longest established hostels in Dublin. Originally built in 1879 as a medical school, Avalon is housed in a stunning Victorian building with open fires, large meeting rooms for groups and the ‘Bald Barista’ café serving the best espresso in Dublin (Irish Times, 2009). It is also one of the most eco-friendly hostels in the city, with solar powered water heaters, full recycling facilities, wind farmed electricity and energy saving bulbs throughout the hostel.
